United by Peanut Butter…

The Cuyahoga Group Celebrates National Peanut Butter Lovers Month!

Move over, turkey and cranberry sauce—November is also the month to celebrate the love of peanut butter—which, according to recent data, is a love shared by 75 percent of Americans.

Peanut butter has become a culinary phenomenon all on its own—from the popular, grab a spoon and eat straight from the jar, to the classic PB&J sandwich, to the key ingredient woven into savory dishes, to the core foundation of peanut butter pastries—peanut butter is here to stay.

Check out these fun peanut butter facts:

  • There’s a jar of peanut butter in 75 percent of the homes in America.
  • It takes one acre of peanuts to make 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches.
  • If you took all the peanut butter that Americans eat in a year, it could coat the floor of the Grand Canyon.
  • The average child will consume 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before graduating from high school.

The Cuyahoga Group understands the nutritious and taste value of peanuts and other nuts (peanuts are not nuts, they are legumes, but who’s counting) which reflects in many of our food options. We offer whole-nut snacks, nut-based protein bars, peanut-butter baked goods and PB&J (peanut butter and jelly) sandwiches in our vending and market locations.

Beyond healthy and delicious, peanuts are as American as apple pie—wait, even more American than apple pie. The old expression, ‘as American as baseball and apple pie’ should be changed to ‘as American as baseball and peanuts.’ After all, have you ever seen baseball fans cracking open boxes of apple pies at ball games? Of course not! You have seen, and probably have participated in, cracking shelled peanuts at the old ball game.

Baseball fan or not, it’s true that no matter our age or gender, we continue to covet peanuts and peanut butter—and we have no regrets!
